Developing a Thermally Stable Ester-Based Drilling Fluid for Offshore Drilling Operations by Using Aluminum Oxide Nanorods

چکیده

Esters were found to be promising alternatives oil, as a constituent of drilling fluids, due their biodegradability and bioaccumulation attributes. In this study, we used ethyl octanoate ester (EO) low molecular weight synthetic oil for formulating an ester-based fluid (EBDF). Aluminum oxide nanorods (nanoparticles) introduced Pickering emulsion stabilizer. Like the commercial emulsifiers, they showed that stabilized invert in our study. The rheological filtration properties EBDF tested at normal pressure three temperatures: temperature deepwater (LT) conditions 2.6 °C, (NPNT) 26.8 elevated 70 °C. To enhance stability fluid, aluminum nanoparticles (NPs) used. An optimum concentration 1 wt% was provide superior performance higher than samples without NPs NPNT, LT, conditions. Steadier gel rheology exhibited conditions, slow rate increasing trend occurred lower temperatures, with NP concentrations up 1.5 wt%. Filtration loss tests presented reduction concentration. results demonstrate 45% achieved addition NP. These show nano-enhancement fluids would suffice wider range operational temperatures operations by providing better thermal maintaining temperatures.

Feasibility of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide as a Drilling Fluid for Deep Underbalanced Drilling Operations

Feasibility of drilling with supercritical carbon dioxide to serve the needs of deep underbalanced drilling operations has been analyzed. A case study involving underbalanced drilling to access a depleted gas reservoir is used to illustrate the need for such a research. For this well, nitrogen was initially considered as the drilling fluid. Dry nitrogen, due to its low density, was unable to ge...

Model-based drilling fluid flow rate estimation using Venturi flume

Monitoring the flow rate out of the well is critical for good control of the downhole pressure in drilling operations. In this feasibility study, we explore the possibility of using a Venturi flume to provide a cost-effective measurement of the flow rate, with improved accuracy compared to conventional methods. A Venturi flume has been simulated both using CFD and a simplified 1D model. By prop...

Psychosocial burden among offshore drilling platform employees.

Conditions of work on offshore drilling platforms are particularly hard due to extreme environmental situations created both by nature and technological processes. Oil drilling workers employed on the open sea are potentially exposed to permanently high stress. Apart from the obvious objective factors affecting drilling platform employees, a great role in the general work-related stress level i...
